Gerhardt Laves, as a University of Chicago postgraduate
student, spent 1929-1931 in fieldwork on Australian Aboriginal
languages.
His extensive collection of good quality material, almost all
unpublished, has been preserved and in recent years has had
considerable use.
2021 AIATSIS June Newsletter: 'Gerhardt Laves
Collection preserved for future generations … This
digitalisation of the Laves Collection involved the
preservation and mastering of more than 27,500 pages of
papers consisting mainly of field notebooks, correspondence
and language cards. The project will now enter a quality
assurance stage before being completed and shared with
traditional owners.'
