Wason Byers 1955 expedition
Hoofs and Horns, September
1955, ‘Territory Letter’, page 8:
… but from No. 10 Bore on the Murranji, Sid Tennyson and Wason Byers
were prospecting the country with Geiger Counters. Sid was in
Newcastle Waters getting some mail out when I saw him, and he said they
were giving the country a thorough survey. It was in this region
that the ill-fated Hitchcock and Anderson perished when searching for
Kingsford Smith and his crew many years ago.
The 1928 railway survey line was
followed by these prospectors in 1955 along with Eric Emil Ostatshenco,
according to a note dated Nov 29th 1968 by E.E. Ostatschenco and Roy
Byers, found at their camp at "106 MILE. PEG. FROM FREW PONDS".
